Mustello, Hutchinson Confirm $100,000 in Small Water and Sewer Grants for Prospect Borough
HARRISBURG - Rep. Marci Mustello (R-Butler) and Sen. Scott Hutchinson (R-Butler/Clarion/Forest/Venango/Warren) announced today that the sewer system located in Prospect Borough, Butler County, will receive a much-needed boost through a grant from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s (CFA) Small Water and Sewer program. Approximately $100,000 has been awarded to assist with necessary upgrades.

“I applaud local officials for their foresight in bringing the borough up to standards,” said Mustello. “It was my pleasure to partner with borough council to promote this much needed project. The existing sewer segments being lined have been classified in poor condition and are aging. Once this project is completed, the borough will no longer need to worry about maintenance on the section of lined pipe. This development will prolong the life of the sewer system.”

The work includes the installation of cured-in-pipe lining in 3,500 feet of existing sewer lines that are currently in unsatisfactory condition. The lines have the potential to break in several areas. The project will create temporary construction jobs and overall reduce maintenance costs. The completion date is November 2020.

“I’m pleased that the Commonwealth Financing Authority has chosen to invest in this important project for Prospect Borough,” said Hutchinson. “Infrastructure projects like these aren’t always exciting, but they’re necessary and often very costly. This state assistance will help minimize the cost to local residents.”

The Pennsylvania Small Water and Sewer Program was established by the General Assembly to award grants to municipalities and municipal authorities for water, sewer, storm water and flood control projects with a cost of not less than $30,000 and not more than $500,000.

CFA was established in 2004 as an independent agency of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). The CFA holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth.
