9/10/2024
HARRISBURG – Rep. Marci Mustello (R-Butler) announced Butler and Knoch school districts have been awarded funding from the state Department of Education’s (PDE) Environmental Repair Grants program. Butler School District will receive $1.03 million, while Knoch School District has been granted $78,190.

These funds are part of a $75 million statewide initiative designed to help schools improve water infrastructure, eliminate contaminants, and address other environmental hazards, ensuring safer, healthier learning environments for students and staff.

“Our schools deserve facilities that support the health and safety of both students and teachers,” said Mustello. “These grants will help Butler and Knoch school districts make critical repairs and improvements, allowing them to address serious environmental concerns that could impact learning and well-being. I am proud to see Butler and Knoch schools receive the support they need to provide a safer and healthier learning environment for our community’s children.”

The Environmental Repair Grants program is aimed at helping schools remediate issues such as lead in water, mold and asbestos. Schools can use the funding to replace outdated infrastructure, install water treatment systems and tackle other environmental hazards that may pose risks to students and staff.

Since the launch of the Environmental Repair Grants program, Pennsylvania has allocated $275 million to schools for infrastructure repairs and environmental safety improvements, reaffirming the state’s commitment to fostering safe learning spaces for all students.
