HARRISBURG – Rep. Marci Mustello (R-Butler) today announced more than $1.33 million in impact fees paid by Marcellus Shale drilling companies will benefit residents of the 11th Legislative District.

“The impact fee not only funds critical projects in Butler County but also a wide variety of important environmental projects in communities throughout the state,” said Mustello. “The natural gas industry has created new jobs and continues to help our local governments meet the demands that have arisen as a result of the industry.”

The following impact fee disbursements in the 11th District were announced:

• Buffalo Township - $92,387.
• Butler Township - $298,728.
• Chicora Borough - $4,764.
• City of Butler - $64,095.
• Clearfield Township - $92,357.
• Clinton Township - $132,237.
• Donegal Township - $63,239.
• East Butler Borough - $5,013.
• Jefferson Township - $129,531.
• Oakland Township - $124,923.
• Summit Township – 126,874.
• Winfield Township - $198,164.

Butler County will receive more than $1.83 million in funding.

Under Act 13 of 2012, impact fees are collected from the drilling companies with 60% returned to counties and municipalities affected by drilling. The rest of the money goes into a Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund, a portion of which is provided to counties. The remaining funds are used by the state for emergency response planning, training and other activities; water, storm water, and sewer system construction and repair; infrastructure maintenance and repair; as well as statewide environmental initiatives.

Checks to municipalities are expected to be distributed in early July.
