HARRISBURG – Three state grants will benefit area recreation and conservation projects in Butler City and Winfield Township, Rep. Marci Mustello (R-Butler) announced today.
“These grants will provide much needed resources for several community projects that are poised to provide expanded access and opportunities for our local citizens and children,” said Mustello. “All three of these projects are aimed at enhancing and updating existing parks and recreation within our local communities. In the cases of Diamond and Windfield parks, these will offer services and access to facilities for an expanded area of residents in Butler County.”
In Butler City, Emily Brittain Elementary will receive $45,600 toward the rehabilitation of the school’s playground. The work will include the construction of a pedestrian walkway; installation of play equipment and required safety surfacing; ADA access, landscaping, project signage and site improvements.
A $250,000 grant will be directed to the County of Butler for the rehabilitation and further development of Diamond Park, across from the historic Courthouse. The work will include the renovation of the plaza; construction of a new pavilion and refurbishing of pedestrian walkways; installation of lighting and utilities; and ADA access, landscaping and new signage.
In addition, Winfield Township will receive $275,400 toward further development of the Winfield Township Community Park. This portion of the project will include the construction of a new multisport court and pedestrian walkway.
The grants are part of the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, overseen by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Specifically, the grants provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts, and other nonprofit organizations for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects.
